Harrods Rocks, Apparently!

Not a name usually synonymous with rock 'n' roll (unless you count the fact that the baby rusks of music celebrity offspring are probably bought in the food hall) Harrods opened its 'Born To Rock' guitar exhibition yesterday, which "celebrates the electric guitar - and showcases the impact it’s had on music, culture, fashion and design".

It sounds like quite an event, with the exhibition including "the world’s first electric guitar - the ‘Frying Pan’" amongst other rare models, as well as "instruments played by rock’s greatest icons - Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison and Muddy Waters - alongside ones used by Oasis and Franz Ferdinand" (note

the lack of icon status given to Franz Ferdinand - go Harrods!).

All the major guitar manufacturers will be there touting their wares and amongst other events including a world record attempt where 2,000 guitarists will simultaneously play Deep Purple's 'Smoke On The Water' , guitar masterclasses and live performances from up and coming bands there will also be special celebrity appearances from the likes of Kylie (launching her new perfume) and Rick Parfitt, who's not a little precious about what he will and will not sign afterwards:

Rick's solo demonstration promises to be totally unique and is unlikely ever to be repeated. It's a one-off opportunity to see and hear him play, and talk about, his parts from Quo classics including 'Whatever You Want', 'Caroline', 'Mystery Song' and 'Hold Ya Back'.

Immediately after his demo, Rick will conduct a signing session for his Facelift guitar accessory.

No tickets are required for either event, but please note that Rick will only autograph Facelifts purchased from Harrods - and which can be supported by a Harrods till receipt.

Under no circumstances, whatsoever, will Rick be able to sign any other items, whether photographs, CDs, records or any Quo memorabilia.

You have been warned.

Harrods Rocks: Born To Rock Guitar Exhibition runs until 3rd March. Events listings from now to 11th February can be viewed here.
