According to reports, it looks like the restrictions on air travel rules might be eased a bit next week.

Apparently there'll be a meeting of government and airline industry officials on Monday, and the Department for Transport are going to make an announcement on revised rules later in the week (probably within 24 hours).

All that's being said at the moment is that they're lookign at "lessening the burden on both passengers and operators," but that's being widely interpreted as: you'll be able to carry on larger hand baggage and liquids will be allowed on board (although you might have to carry them in a plastic bag so they can be easily checked).

It won't be a return to the 'good old days' though. Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander has said "There is an emerging threat in terms of liquid explosives and we have to reflect that in terms of the on-going arrangements we have in place."

N.B. If you're JK Rowling then please ignore this article as the normal rules obviously don't apply to you.
