Greenwich Car Free Day

GreenwichCarFreeDay.jpg

Like small children, tourists and big dogs, cars don't really belong in London. Sure, they have their uses but they do take up a lot of space, are noisy and tend to move very slowly along the streets. creating bottlenecks at crucial points in the transport infrastructure. We need them and perhaps even like them, but we know, deep down, that they just don't belong inside the M25.

Greenwich Council has grasped the fact that without cars, certain places would be nicer: quieter, cleaner, safer and the borough is rather delightfully holding the Greenwich Car Free Day this Sunday.

To encourage people in the borough - and across London - to leave their cars at home and use alternative means of transport such as buses, trains, bikes and just putting on shoes to walk from A to B, Cutty Sark Gardens will be completely car free from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Instead of car traffic the area will be filled with live music, stiltwalkers, a specially imported beach, aerial performers and an intriguing "roving Indian elephant with Bollywood singers."

Because that's what London needs: fewer cars, more alternative means of transport like roving elephants and Bollywood singers. Up yours, Jeremy Clarkson!

Greenwich Car Free Day, Cutty Sark Gardens from 1.00pm to 5.00pm, entry is free. For more information go to the Greenwich Council website here.

The city should really be one big playground for the 20-30 elite who spend a couple of years drinking and and coupling before returning to the suburban hell they spent so long trying to escape.... nothing like cars, children, old or ugly people should be allowed to intrude on the general wonderfulness....
