The Londonist Literary List appears every Tuesday. If you’d like to bring an event to our attention, please email londonistlit@gmail.com.

First off, a resounding thank you to Sarah who authored this column so expertly each week and has only abdicated the role because she was forced back to the Big Apple. We’re not sure if they have “books” or “literature” over there Sarah, so this one’s for you…

Events Around London:

Tonight:

The crime novelist and travel writer Simon Lewis, co-author of the Rough Guide to China, talks about how the two genres inform his writing at the N4 Library, Blackstock Road (N4) 6.30-7.30pm (free entry).

The Lyrical Balladeers are spinning lyricism (say that 10 times fast) at the Adam Street Club in Central London at 7pm (Tickets £5) with speakers Richard Stokes, a leading translator, and Jeremy Sams, the Tony Award winning composer.

Wednesday 21st June:

We can think of no better way to enjoy a long midsummer’s night in London than listening to a well crafted verse or two; and tonight we're in luck as David Constantine, Colette Bryce, Christopher Reid and Melissa Range are reading their poems to launch the summer issue of Poetry London at the Foyles Gallery (free entry).

Also this evening, as part of the British Museum's ‘Middle East Now’ programme, the London Review Bookshop presents a reading by Stephen O'Shea at the British Museum Redaing Room entitled The Cross & The Crescent. O’Shea will read from his new book Sea of Faith and lead a discussion with Robert Irwin and Inayat Bunglawala on the shared history of Islam and Christianity, and the lessons we can learn from the past. Tickets are £5 (concessions £3), available from the BM box office.

Look out on Wednesday too for AC Grayling, whose most recent book Among the Dead Cities, concerns the moral implications of the Allied bombing of civilians in WW2, he'll be at the Crockatt & Powell Booksellers, 119 Lower Marsh (SE1 7AE) for an evening of informal discussion.

Monday 26 June:

It’s time again for another Bookslam (£2 before 8pm, then £5) where Ben Richards, whose bestseller, The Mermaid and the Drunks was one of Richard and Judy’s picks for 2004, will be reading from his new novel, Confidence. Also performing: Trinidadian spoken word maverick Anthony Joseph. MC Patrick Neate.

And at the Waterstone’s in Hampstead Heath Road, the actor and author Simon Callow (who we saw most recently playing Charles Dickens on Doctor Who), will be talking about his new book Orson Welles: Hello Americans which examines the years from Citizen Kane to Macbeth in which Wells' Hollywood film career came apart (7pm, £3 entry).

New Releases:

We haven’t quite got our head around the new releases yet. So let’s say there aren’t any. Nope, no releases here *whistles*
