Saturday July 8th sees the 6th Rise Festival taking place at Finsbury Park, Mayor Ken's freebie anti-racism gig; so maybe the one day in the year when he'll have to be nice to the Americans.

Lord Coxon of Camden is headlining along with The Buzzcocks, The Wailers, Sway and, erm, Roy Ayers. No doubt a few other acts to be announced, perhaps we could recommend some of the fine bands featured in our juke box.

Sort of echoing a fine heritage of 30 years of rock against racism, Ken said of the gig:

Racism is a dead end and music is one of the most powerful ways of demonstrating that fact. The 'Rise: London United' will bring together people from every background to celebrate the diversity of the capital. This incredibly strong and broad line-up of artists will make a great free day out for all with a strong message that our city loves its diversity.

Well from The Buzzcocks to Roy Ayers is certainly diverse and there will also be a range of artists and dancers from across the world, so no Live 8 then.

Entry details have yet to be announced, but last year 80 000 enjoyed a grand day out in the name of an issue that, no matter who's blowing up what, has never really gone away. See you down there.
