The Fall

Here's one of the ways you wouldn't really want to become a millionaire.

A lift engineer (that's an elevator repairman for our American readers) was awarded just under £1m in compensation after a rope supporting a maintenance platform he was working on at Canary Wharf snapped. As there was no secondary breaking system installed down he went. Along with the platform. For 11 storeys. Oh, and then a 110lb lift motor fell on top of him.

Mr Smith suffered serious injuries to both legs and his shoulders, suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, and faces another five operations in the future

The poor bastard's already had some twenty operations and suddenly £977,659 doesn't seem like a lot.

Did we mention that he was trapped overnight?

Damn.
