She's Bread - Wrapped in Plastic

gingerbread_woman.jpg

No, we're not misquoting Jack Nance. This is the strange story of Sharon Baker, an artist who has baked a life-size model of herself out of bread dough. Her as yet unsliced doppelganger is naked and due to be eaten by an audience as part of an exhibition in London's Docklands tomorrow:

"It was prompted by the sad and early death of a friend from breast cancer... I wanted to create a body in something that would decay like the human body does. The fragility of life really strikes home when somebody dies young."

We're reminded of John Cleese dressed as a woman (of course) in an art gallery saying "I don't know a lot about art, but I know what I like," before taking a bite out of a nearby canvas...

If anyone knows exactly where and when this loaf is due to be unwrapped please let us know in the comments.
