RIP Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,

How are thy leaves so verdant!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,

Much pleasure doth thou bring me

O chipping machine O chipping machine,

How are thy teeth so razor sharp!

O chipping machine O chipping machine,

Much mulch doth thou bring us.

Did you like that? It's just our little ode to the Norwegain Christmas tree which got shredded today by Jenny Jones of the Green London Assembly.

"The 21.5m fir will make about 15 bags of mulch which will be used as fertiliser in Parliament Square," reports the Beeb, "It is hoped people will be motivated to recycle all their festive waste."

Some other 'interesting' festive wastage facts from the article are:

  • We sent around 123m Christmas cards;
  • consumed around 1.5m jars of pickles;
  • put up 976,000 trees; and
  • used enough wrapping paper to cover Hyde Park four times.
