A quick rundown of some incoming cinema events.

First up the generous folks over at Firecracker have organised a free screening of Ashura this evening at the Curzon Mayfair:

Ichikawa Somegoro stars as Isumo, a retired demon killer who now passes his time as a kabuki actor in 19th century Tokyo. After accidentally killing a child, Izumo swore never to draw his sword again, but evil is afoot and a conspiracy is in full swing to awaken the powerful demon queen Ashura. Can Izumo really stand back and watch the demons take over the world, or will he join the fight once more and battle the forces of evil? Adapted from a stage play, and directed by Yojiro Takita (When the Last Sword is Drawn), featuring incredible effects and stellar swordplay, Ashura is one not to be missed!

We saw When the Last Sword is Drawn last year and it was excellent. This sounds a lot different, but we'll be there to check it out. Booking details are here, but HURRY as places are limited.

Similarly the free screening of War Games that we mentioned the other day proved so popular it sold out too fast for many of you. Not to worry as we just heard that that there's a second screening. Full details here.

And head over to the Tate Modern's website to grab the info on the Italian King's of the B's (Secret History of Italian Cinema 1949 - 81) season they're hosting. A rare chance to see such Tarantino admired gems as Naked Violence, Contract and Mister Scarface as well as Mario Bava's Planet of the Vampires and our favourite: Dr Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine.
