Another week of gig going upon us and much to recommend so without further whatever here's the Londonist Music team's guide to what we think you should be doing for the next seven days.

Wednesday: Well if you've not made plans for tonight yet you could head down to the Garage to check out San Fransican art pop punkers Deerhoof.

Otherwise we suggest you kick off John Peel Day at the 12 Bar Club on Denmark Street, Blang present Sergeant Buzzfuzz, Ben Calvert, Stuffy/The Fuses, The Sways and Lelia Zerai (in that order) at their I'm A Peel-iever night from 7.30 to late. They'll be playing tapes of Peel's shows between sets and keeping the spirit alive through general randomness. More info and links to the bands on the Blang site.

John Peel Day: There are of course a multitude of events taking place today to celebrate the life of this country's greatest ever DJ. Should you find yourself somewhere playing music that's not dedicated to the great JP then we suggest you leave promptly and go and find somewhere that is.

Of all the events going on our recommendation is Sonic Cathedral at The Legion on Old Street where Peel favourites, The Jesus And Mary Chain's Jim Reid will be playing a rare solo gig with some surprise guests in the offing (and they won't tell us who) alongside DJ sets from The Telescopes and one of the first UK outing's for Australia's The Morning After Girls. (MM)

Super shouty new band Test Icicles (hur hur hur) will be playing at Shoreditch music shop City 16 tomorrow night. The event is being filmed by Channel 4 for the Digital Music Awards which will be held at the Hammersmith Palais next Tuesday. If you want to catch the band be at the store (on Charlotte Road) for 7! (TK)

Friday: Nitin Sawnhey brings his fusion of world music and multi-layered dance rhythms to Koko for an early show with doors opening at 7.

The other side of Camden Drowned in Sound will be celebrating their 5th birthday at the Barfly with full details here. Happy Birthday chaps.

A little earlier in the day alt.country rockers Richmond Fontaine will be playing their first UK instore at the Rough Trade shop in Neil's Yard ahead of their Bush Hall show.

Saturday: XFM's Big Night Out at Brixton has sold out so how about settling in at home for once with a fine whisky and Don Lett's excellent Punk: Attitude on DVD.

Sunday: It's a surprise jaunt for Bibblyshuffles at Koko this evening. Apparently they have been turning up to their gigs of late, spoilsports, but reviews have been mixed. Tickets from Ticketweb.

Alternatively, and in our eyes a far better deal there's more Manc Americana blues boogie badness from The Delta Blues and it's free at the Colour Club, Camden. If you haven't seen these guys yet what better reason.

And there's another free show, this time at In The Pines, 28 Harrison Street, W1 for pop tinged folker James William Hindle starting at 2pm.

Monday: We Are Scientists are to play an intimate in-store gig in London today to mark the release of debut album With Love And Squalor. The event takes place at 5:30pm at Selectadisc on Berwick Street. (TK) Then it's time to head off to something else. If you don't have tickets for the sold out Sufjan Stevens show at Shepherd's Bush then we have two top choices for you.

Four Day Hombre play the Barfly on ahead of the release of their world conquering indie pop single Bulbs. These guys are going to be Coldplay huge given the breaks so create a I saw them when... moment and be there for 8.15.

And for the folkers amongst you the mighty Eighteenth Day Of May are holding their album launch at the Water Rats. You really should be at one of these shows, we will.

Tuesday: Athlete play the Apple store for alliterative effect and because they're bunging their back catalogue on iTunes or something. More details from the store or alternatively try to win tickets here.
