We've said it before and we'll say it again: Ken Livingstone loves his texting.

We imagine him sat at his desk in the big glass testicle, feverishly tapping away at his brand new Motorola Razr V3, transmitting missives to his government colleagues: I am well bored, wat about u?.

Seriously though, every other initiative Ken puts his name to has some kind of text service included. Text recycling? Check. Terrorist texting? Check. Scathing put downs to hurl at journalists delivered direct to your phone? Check.

Ok we made that last one up, but you get the idea.

Now though, Ken seems to have come up with an ideal way to sate his 'text-mania' and provide a useful service for a large part of the capital's inhabitants i.e. a text service that lets people receive localised licensed cab numbers direct to their mobiles.

Part of the ‘Know what you’re getting into’ campaign designed to "warn women of the dangers of using illegal minicabs and offer safer travel information", the service allows you to receive details of licensed minicab firms in whichever area you're in by texting ‘HOME’ to 60835.

Londonist hasn't had a chance to try it out yet, so if you use the service in the next few weeks be sure to email us and let us know how good it is.
