As London gets back into her groove, it has become time to get back to what we do best. For other Londonist writers, that would involve a weekend overdosing on zombie flicks, or maybe a trip to the opera, perhaps a brisk walk around some small part of the city, taking in a few architectural fancies along the way. But for myself and Dan , there really is only one option....to ingest as much sporting action as possible. Sad....but true.
There's plenty on the box this weekend : the third and final test match for the Lions against the All Blacks takes place tomorrow morning, kicking off at 8.10am and live on Sky Sports 1. And on Sunday you've got the British Grand Prix at Silverstone (yawn) and the climax of the Scottish Open .
The highlight of the weekend's televised action however, is undoubtedly the continued coverage of the Tour de France (live on Eurosport with highlights on ITV2 ). Lance Armstrong is still in possession of the yellow jersey after Stage Six earlier today, and as they head into the mountains, the fun is really about to start , with Armstrong looking to hold off any challenge by Jan Ullrich .
If you intend to get out of the house over the weekend (and we are supposed to be getting some decent weather), then we have two events to recommend to you. First up is Middlesex vs Hampshire in the County Championship match at Southgate . Neither side are in real contention for the title, but that doesn't matter, because not only is it going to be a perfect weekend to watch cricket, but it is also a great opportunity to shout abuse at Hampshire's Shane Warne, especially with the Aussies starting to look decidely mortal . Give him hell. The second event is something called 'Rollerstroll ', which I can't say that I've had the pleasure of attending, but looks just the thing for all you active types who like prancing around in Hyde Park on your online skates.
In terms of forthcoming attractions, tickets are still available for Barnet vs Arsenal on the 16th and the Athletics Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on the 22nd (which will see Olympic Champion Justin Gaitlin take on world record holder Asafa Powell in the men's 100 metres). And in other news, our Olympic Organising Committee are going to have to tell the bloke who did the fancy images of the finished park to rub out the practice baseball ground, as it will no longer be needed .
