Tower Bridge Is Closing Down

Not permanently though, just for a week, while "specialist work" is carried out.

It is 100 years old after all, and while that's not quite as ancient as, say, some parts of the District Line, it's still pretty old.

The BBC reports that the bridge will be closed "to traffic in both directions from 0600 BST on Saturday until 8 May while work is carried out on its road...[and] some of the 100-year-old bridge's timbers"

Pedestrians and visitors will still be able to get on to the bridge but motorists will be diverted via Southwark Bridge and London Bridge...both of which are (shock, horror) congestion zones!

Don't worry though, you won't be charged as long as you follow the diversion signs. Sounds like a foolproof plan to us, there's no way TfL could cock that up...or is there?
