Detroit In London?

Is it petty to point out stupid errors on the major news sites like the BBC?

Quick answer: Yes.

Slightly longer answer: Yes, but let's do it anyway because it's fun.

This piece from the Beeb site today is a bit of a filler article on Ewan McGregor's artistic preprations for his role in the forthcoming West End production of Guys and Dolls.

If you want to get the inside knowledge on Euan's tonsils then this is the article for you:

You become incredibly aware of not damaging your vocal chords, you don't go to places that are too noisy, you don't go to noisy or smoky restaurants. You just take care of it.

But it's the very end of that article which is confusing us. The bit where we find out who's appearing alongisde McGregor in the musical:

Also starring in the show - which opens at London's Piccadilly Theatre on 1 June - are Jenna Russell, Nathan Detroit and Ally McBeal actress Jane Krakowski.

Nathan Detroit? Really? Not, the rather serious-minded veteran of stage and screen Douglas Hodge, (nominated for an Olivier for his 2001 performance in The Caretaker opposite Michael Gambon) who will playing the character of Nathan Detroit then?

Either the BBC have stopped proofreading their articles or this is one serious bit of method acting by Mr Hodge. Whichever, what's certain is they wouldn't have got away with it if old Frank was still around.
