192 Maps

Ok, so Google has its big, flashy maps now, with all the zoom you could want and that fantastic slide bar thingy on the side.

But it only works for North America. What about us? Don't they know that British steets are much harder to navigate with all their twists and turns and confusing names?

Well, while you wait for Google UK to catch up (and begin taking pictures through your bathroom window we would imagine) why not try 192.com's new mapsearch facility which gives you some slightly blurry aerial shots of your desired destination.

So here's Soho Square:

And here's Trafalgar Square, which seems to have gone a bit cockeyed, but you get the idea.

Multimap.com has done this for some time, and it looks a lot better than this 192 stuff seems to!

If you enter a postcode into Multimap and get the map, then select the "aerial photo" icon, you get the aerial shot. And if you float your mouse over it, it overlays the map! It's pretty swish, and it's been going since at least 2002.

So we're ahead of our 'Murcan cousins in this respect.

Obviously we carry a lot of weight over at the Googleplex:
