The Cottingley Fairy hoax is one of Londonist's favourite ever scams.

The fact that two sweet little girls could pull the wool over the eyes of so many (including Arthur Conan Doyle, although he was already a bit dotty by that point) is, we think, just brilliant; and something that just couldn't happen in today's technically advanced and overly-cynical world.

Or could it?

Annelies Strba is a Swiss Artist who photographs and videos subjects as diverse as Auschwitz and her family living room.

Her latest exhibit, which comes to the Frith Street Gallery this Friday is an examination of whether the Cottingley Fairy phenomenon could possibly be repeated today.

We haven't seen any pictures from the exhibition yet, but we believe that Strba has made an 'up-to-date' version of the Cottingley fairies in the form of a video.

Should be well worth seeing.
