(Apologies for the punny headline, we think the Xmas cracker jokes we were subjected to over the weekend may have influenced our subconscious.)

So the London Met wants to moor a prison ship on the Thames.

The ship in question is HMP Weare, originally a troop ship in the Falklands war, and then a floating jail in the US. It's now berthed at Portland in Dorset.

However it may soon be 'pulling up anchor' and finding a new home in the capital if Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens, has his way.

Londonist thinks it's a great idea. If only so the ship can be incorporated into the next installment of the Getaway franchise.
