London Olympic Stadium

With just a week before London has to submit its offical bid for the 2012 Olympic games, Seb Coe and his team have unveiled their plans for the 500-acre Olympic Park.

The main stadium, to be located in the Lea Valley, is designed to "communicate physical strength, sport and movement" with a roof which wraps itself around the venue in the same way "that muscles support and represent the human body".

Also included in the plans are an aquatics centre, a velodrome, three sports arenas, a hockey centre, media facilities and, of course, the Olympic Village, designed to hold 17,800 atheletes.

No mention of a pub with dartboard yet, but we're sure that's just a temporary oversight.

Londonist is especially interested in the plans for a international transport hub which will "whisk up to 320,000 people per hour in and out of the Olympic Park".

Incredible. Especially as it took the Number 88 bus a good fifty minutes to "whisk" us from Vauxhall to Oxford Circus this morning.
