If, like Londonist, you were out of our beloved capital last week, wondering what on earth the white stuff falling from the sky was (before anyone says it: no, we weren't in the jungle with Sophie Anderton) you might like to reacquaint yourself with more urban affairs. Here are some gigs you ought to check out:
Monday 22nd
Fifty Views (right) are on the bill tonight at Water Rats and are worth checking out. They're on stage at 9pm. Also on are Make Good Your Escape and The Glow Buzzers. Headlining the night are Planet of Women. Tickets are a fiver, but you can download a flyer and get yourself in at at the concession price of £4. So don't spend a quid printing the flyer out.
Drowned in Sound and Plum Promotions host a new monthly show, with donations on the door going to Oxfam's Make Trade Fair Campaign. Entry is a fiver unless you're a member, in which case you can get in for free. Membership is free too and all you have to do is visit the Plum Promotions website, go the Marquee section, and look for the Oxfam logo next to the details of the gig. We've even made it easier for you by giving you a link, so make sure you donate generously for your free music.
Details are a bit sketchy on who's headlining, but Fleeing New York and Crane Builders are on the bill. According to the press release, Crane Builders are "Fall meets Postal Service" which is promising enough, but they're also signed to buy from Elbow's label.
Londonist is a major fan of Elbow so hopes their lead singer's taste in music matches their ability to write and sing brilliant songs.
Tuesday 23rd
Always worth checking out is X-Posure Live where you can check out John Kennedy's tips for the top. In our opinion, John Kennedy and Claire Sturgess are the only XFM DJs worth making a special effort to tune into if you like to discover new music.

Wednesday 24th
If you're into your Biffy Clyro, you might want to check out thisGirl who are on at the Barfly. On the tuneful side of rock, or the very heavy side of pop, they occupy the ground somewhere around Faith No More, without being overt copyists. Ticket details are available on the Barfly website itself.
Thursday 25th
If you were thinking of leaving it a day and catching thisGirl supporting The (International) Noise Conspiracy at the Islington Academy then think again - this gig's been cancelled due to a family bereavement. Details of re-scheduled dates are on the TINC website.
